20141123_135003-150x150I grew up eating lingonberries because of my Swedish heritage. And I don’t mean the jam. Although it is generally served with meatballs- it makes a great accompaniment to Turkey. They are much tastier than cranberries with added nutritional benefits. Here is how I prepare them. If you do not live in the vicinity of a Scandinavian store you can purchase fresh frozen lingonberries here. They are Swedelicious!

One and a half pounds of fresh or frozen lingonberries
1 cup of orange liqueur such as Cointreau or Grand Marnier
1/2 teaspoon of ground cardamom
1 cup of sugar

Combine all of the ingredients in a medium sauce pan. Bring to a full boil and simmer on medium heat about 5 to 8 minutes. Cool.
